Attack of the Branded Social Network

Let the articles about branding on the social network commence.  Actually, hype aside—there are a lot of opportunities to message/provide experiences where the people go.  It's that simple.  I'll use my own life as an example—I watch almost no television anymore except for a few favorite shows which I Tivo (My Name Is Earl is a must).

So here's a decent article on iMedia Connection that makes the case for "Branding The Social Network" and provides some examples.  There will be many more of these types of write-ups to come…

From the article:

“Many companies think of the internet like television: consumers are expected to sit patiently and absorb the branded message, and then act accordingly. Now, with the rise of a combination of technologies called Web 2.0, the internet is much more than a broadcast channel.

With the ever-increasing social use of the web, websites are becoming venues for discussion of ideas, opinions and transactions. Social networking is the framework in which these conversations happen. Our challenge as marketers is to leverage the power of these new social networks to create innovative brand experiences.”

And speaking of the Social Network, here's how I see it.
