Insights from the Natural Products Show

Last week I attended the Natural Products Expo West, the “world’s largest natural and organic products tradeshow.” Nearly 60,000 people attended the show to get a taste (figuratively and literally) of the latest and greatest in natural products, including snack foods, supplements, pet products, beverages, eco-friendly home products, and more from over 3,000 exhibits.

Real Time Brand Management

On March 13, a Virgin America flight from Los Angeles to New York was diverted from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Stewart airport in Newburgh, N.Y., due to severe weather, and the passengers and crew waited in the plane on the tarmac for over four hours. The crew was anxious, babies were crying, mothers were anxious, and the passengers were unruly — to the point that one woman was taken off the plane by police. The entire ordeal was documented by David Martin, the CEO of Kontain.com, on his company’s iPhone social-media application.

Going for the Gold

I’ve finally made it through all of the hours of Olympics coverage which I DVR’d because I had been unable to watch most of the Games live. Since I already knew the result of many of the competitions, I was interested in watching mostly for the profiles of the athletes and stories behind and nuances of their achievements. I gleaned a few insights that seem to have relevance for companies who are competing in the game of business.
