EA Dominates US Mobile Games Market with 27% Share

Electronic Arts (EA) Mobile is the largest mobile games publisher in the US, with a 27.2% market share in Q2 2008, according to mocoNews, quoting a private Nielsen report.

electronic_arts_ea_mobile - RtB.jpgThe other publishers in the top five are Glu Mobile, with an 11.8% market share, followed by Gameloft (11.4%), Namco (6.4%) and Hands-On Mobile (5.4%). EA Mobile accounted for almost twice as many games played during the quarter as other publishers, with 4.7m unique downloads. Glu Mobile, Gameloft and Namco accounted for about 2m downloads each, while Hands-On Mobile recorded less than 900,000.

Together, the five firms made 62% of total gaming revenues in the US, up from 60% during the Q2 2007. The most popular gaming categories during the quarter were puzzle and strategy, accounting for 43.4% of the market, followed by action and adventure (13.6%), sports and racing (12.5%), trivia (11.1%), and card and casino (10.9%).
